Life would be pretty boring and mundane without something to kick it off the couch and send it hurtling into some wild adventure. Experiencing things that we normally don't experience in the course of our daily lives really brings a richer meaning to life. And if nothing else, it's great for the body and soul.
I've been one to enjoy excursions and road trips with just myself and my thoughts, but it's all the more amazing with someone you can share those moments with. Life can be so much better when you can experience all that the world has to offer, when you're with a companion. In my adventures, I'm so glad that I have my amazing wife, right there beside me. So I suppose that makes it our adventures.
So here, I present to you all our adventures, the good and the bad, the grand, the amazing and awe inspiring. And sometimes, even the not so grand, but simple, relaxing and pleasurable moments somewhere away from home....
But this article isn't about Fresno, rather, it's about the Sequoia National Park... which happens to be pretty close to Fresno itself. In fact, only 10 Minutes away..... as the article title implies. So why the emphasis on 10 minutes? Well, here's the story....
When I use to still live in Fresno, my wife, then girlfriend was boooored out of her mind! In fact, there was nothing for her in Fresno (or for most other people in that matter). So I suggested the Sequoia National Park, since it was so close. So I said, "Oh ya, it's only about 10 minutes away, heck, we can practically walk there it's so close". And that's what was going to be our plan.... a quick ride to the entry way to Sequoia National Park, then a wonderful hike around the area to experience the wonders of super large trees, fresh crisp air and being one with nature.
So we hopped into our car.... a base Mustang inline-six at the time, rolled the windows down, hit the radio and began cruising through South Fresno..... since the quickest route was to hit South Fresno, then HWY 99. At that point Sherry looks at me and says, "Wasn't it suppose to be about 10 minutes"? I said, "Well ya, but we gotta get through Fresno first.... duh"! A good 15 minutes later, we're hitting the Highway and a few minutes in she gives me the eyes. I said, "Technically we're still in Fresno so c'mon". 15 minutes passes again and she looks at me with more glaring eyes. And I said, "We're out of Fresno now so really, it's only about 10 minutes from here".
Well, it didn't quite work out the way we planned. Somehow, the 10 minutes wasn't exactly 10 minutes. Man, I could've sworn it was only 10 minutes but somehow, it ended up being about a 1.5 hour drive..... to the gateway alone! And Sherry in her Canadian accent and deadly pointing eyes goes... "Just 10 minutes eh?". Well, it has been a while since I've hit that national park so perhaps I was off just a bit :) To this day, she still gives me crap!
In the end, we finally made it to the gateway, paid our entry fee and drove on in. As we started up a bit of a drive, checking out the scenes, breathing in the refreshing mountain air and relishing in the beauty of the sun-lit day, Sherry cheerfully asked, "So how far up until we see the giant Sequoia trees"? I just shrugged with an air of confidence and said, "Eh, it's only about 10 minutes up".
